For Carolina Research Ventures to invest, certain criteria must be met. First, we only invest in companies developing or commercializing technology and inventions created at the University or through significant use of University resources. Second, we focus on companies in the life sciences (biopharma, medical devices, diagnostics healthcare IT, and tech-enabled services) and information technologies (software, hardware, apps, data systems, AI/ML systems, tech-enabled services). As technologies evolve, so do our descriptive categories. If your technology does not fit our categories as described, but you feel it does meet other criteria, please consider contacting us.
Typically, our investments focus on early and seed stage investments, with follow-on investments as appropriate throughout the company’s growth and development. Many of the companies CRV invests in are early-stage enterprises, often having been funded by non-equity sources such as grants, SBIRs, etc. and frequently prior to any revenue generation.
